The best Polish comedy of all time? The audience has chosen. It is not “Kiler” or “Seksmisja”

There is probably no doubt that Poles love comedies. Although many of them went unnoticed, others immediately captivated the crowds. Which domestic title of this genre is considered the best of all time? Probably no one expected such a film to be on the podium.

is undoubtedly the most popular film genre in Poland, although their production is not easy. It would seem that a good script and humor that appeals to various tastes are a guarantee of success, and yet these elements are only half of it. The direction and cast are also important for the reception, after all, not every actor finds his place in productions that are intended to entertain the audience. Although several, or even a dozen or so new titles appear on the big screens every year, only a few of them gain interest. The vast majority of viewers reach for classics from decades ago. has prepared a ranking of the best Polish comedies of all time based on user votes. Which ones were in the TOP10 and which ones were missing? You will be surprised.

The best Polish comedy of all time? Bareja’s “Miś” is not even on the podium

The audience’s absolute favorite was the musical romance “Piętro Ponad” directed by Leon Trystan, which debuted on the big screen in 1937. The production, in which the main characters were created by Józef Orwid, Ludwik Sempoliński and Helena Grossówna, among others, won a total of 8.22 stars by 12,343 users. Right behind it was “Lekarstwo na miłość” by Jan Batory, based on the novel “Klin” by Joanna Chmielewska. The black-and-white action comedy with , Krystyna Sienkiewicz and Andrzej Łapicki from 1966 was rated 7.87 stars by 11,297 internet users.

The podium was closed by Tadeusz Chmielewski’s adventure-war film “How I Unleashed World War II”, which premiered in 1970. The title, in which Marian Kociniak created the already iconic character of Franek Dolas, received as many as 278,908 ratings and thus 7.87 stars. The list of the TOP10 best comedies of all time is as follows:

  1. “Upstairs”
  2. “The Cure for Love”
  3. “How I Unleashed World War II”
  4. “Gangsters and Philanthropists”
  5. “Vagabonds”
  6. “Boys Do not Cry”
  7. “I’m in charge here”
  8. “Groundhog Day”
  9. “Sexmission”

It’s not just the fans of “Kiler” who will be disappointed. These cult comedies did not make it to the TOP10 best titles of this genre

Many are certainly surprised that the TOP10 lacks titles that are considered cult. For example, Juliusz Machulski’s “Kiler” with Janusz Rewiński, Katarzyna Figura and Jerzy Stuhr, which came in 11th place on the list. Its sequel “Kiler-ów 2-óch” was rated much worse, coming in only 61st place. The same applies to the absolute classic in the oeuvre, the film “Poszukiwany szukana” with Wojciech Pokora in the main role, as well as “Porankiem kojota” by Olaf Lubaszenko – these were awarded 17th and 58th place in the ranking, respectively.

These are not the only titles that have been treated so harshly by the portal’s users. After all, classics such as “Kingsajz”, “Big Bang”, “Wenus w futrze” or “U pana Boga za piecem” did not qualify for the TOP10. The war-adventure comedy “CK Dezerterzy” and the outstanding “Rejs” by Marek Piwowski, according to critics, also did not receive the recognition they deserve. The biggest surprise, however, is the fact that the ranking completely omitted the hit trilogy “Sami swoi” by Sylwester Chęciński. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
