He turned down the role in “The Holy War”. The producers visited him at home. “Terentiev set a condition”

Zbigniew Buczkowski has starred in many productions, but the cult “The Holy War” brought him the greatest popularity among viewers. In the latest interview, he revealed that he was not convinced about this series at first and did not want to play in it. However, the producers did not give up, because the then TVP program director Nina Terentiew set them a certain condition.

he first appeared on screen in 1972 in the comedy “Dziewczyny do nagroda” by Janusz Kondratiuk. Later, he played mainly episodes, trying unsuccessfully to get into film school. – Zdzisiek Maklakiewicz told me that I should be happy about it, because school would destroy me – he told Plejada. – “You’ll manage. But for now you have to play everything!” – he heard from a friend, which he exceptionally took to heart. From then on, he accepted almost every offer and at one point played in even 20 films a year.

The role in “House” was written specifically for Buczkowski. Another actor tried to displace him

After conquering the cinema, there was also a chance to make a name for himself on the small screen, all thanks to the series directed by Jan Łomnicki, in which he played Henio Lermaszewski for two decades. “I played a role that was written especially for me,” he confessed in the same interview, admitting that another actor had a craving for it, but Andrzej Mularczyk, who was responsible for writing the script, did not agree to any changes in the cast. “I will be grateful to him for the rest of my life,” said Buczkowski.

Before the production was finished, he got another great role, which brought him not only incredible popularity and adoration of viewers, but also critical acclaim. We are talking about the cult Polish-Silesian comedy, broadcast on TVP2 from 1999 to 2008, in which he played the character of Zbyszek Pyciakowski. As it turned out, at first he was not convinced to participate in this production and refused to participate in it several times.

Buczkowski did not want to take the role in “The Holy War”. Years later he revealed why the producers insisted on his participation

It is no secret that at the peak of his popularity, Buczkowski did not attend castings, because he regularly received offers of roles from directors interested in working with him. This was also the case with “The Holy War”. “Someone called me and offered me this role,” he recalled. When he got to know the details, including the concept of the series, he was not convinced by the idea. “To be honest, I did not really feel the idea for this series,” he admitted in Plejada.

The producers did not give up, however, and did everything to change his mind. “They even came to me specifically to convince me to do it. I did not know what they were on about. I thought that if I refused, they would simply take someone else. And they did not want to give up,” he said. Only after some time did it turn out that it was behind it, and she agreed to the production, but only if Buczkowski played the Varsovian. “So the producers were aware that they would not broadcast “The Holy War” without me. In the end, I agreed,” he said. At the same time, he emphasized that he did not expect the first episodes to be such a success and that the story would ultimately be continued for almost a decade.
