Before she took the role in Stranger Things, she had one condition. Years later, Winona Ryder reveals what

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Winona Ryder revealed that when she first met with Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer about the role they wanted her to play in the Netflix series, she set only one condition. Fortunately, they were able to fulfill it.

The actress recalls that she had to decide to join the cast of “Stranger Things” after only reading the pilot script. She admitted that at the time she didn’t even really know what streaming was. The project interested her, however. However, she had one condition regarding the film.

Winona Rider Returns in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”

Winona Ryder told the Duffer brothers that she had spoken to Tim Burton and if Beetlejuice 2 ever saw the light of day, they would have to let her take a break from the series to make the movie. Only then would she agree to sign a contract tying her to the Netflix production for a few (as it turns out, even 10) years. The Duffers agreed and Ryder was cast as the mother of one of the main characters – Joyce Byers in the series.

– There were moments in the last 15 years when we thought [z Burtonem – red.]that it would happen, but the problem was that everything had to come together for it to happen. I remember in my first meeting with the Duffer brothers, I said, If there’s a Beetlejuice 2, you’ll let me do it. And they said yes. Luckily, it worked out. That was my only condition,” Ryder says.

It turns out Ryder didn’t have to take a break from “Stranger Things,” because “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which hits theaters in September, was filmed between seasons. The film will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Her character Lydia Deetz’s daughter is played by Jenna Ortega, who is the star of another Netflix hit, “Wednesday.”
