The award-winning play “Forever”, by the company Kulunka Teatroa, will open the Olite Theatre Festival programme this Friday, 19 July (10:00 pm, La Cava); the masked play recently won the Max awards for best playwright and best director. The first day will come to an end, at midnight, in the Plaza Carlos III in Olite, with the music of Melenas, a dream pop and garage rock quartet from Pamplona.

Until August 4, the festival, with artistic direction by Ane Pikaza and María Goiricelaya, will offer 27 performances of music, dance, circus and, above all, theatre – only one of them in Basque (“104 Haurra”, by Yarleku Teatro, on July 26 at the cultural centre in Tafalla) – mainly in Olite, but also in Beire, Tafalla, San Martín de Unx and, for the first time, Pitillas.

This year, 10 shows have been scheduled at La Cava de Olite, the festival’s main stage.

On Saturday 20th, the Chévere company will present ‘Helen Keller, Wonder Woman?’, directed by Xron, and on Sunday 21st it will be the turn of ‘Moríos’, by Cultura i Conflicte and Teatre de l’Aurora.

Activity returns to La Cava on Friday 26th with ‘Villa’, a production by the Chilean company Teatro Playa, directed by Guillermo Calderón, while the following day, ‘Mal de coraçon’ by Victoria Szpunberg will be performed, a production by the Companyia Solitària” directed by Andrea Jiménez.

And on Sunday 28th it will be the turn of ‘Casting Lear’, a production by Barco Pirata, Teatro de la Abadía and Andrea Jiménez.

On Wednesday, July 31, the activity will resume with ‘Ezkaba’, by the Navarrese company Iluna Producciones, a work written and directed by Miguel Goikoetxandía, and on Friday, August 2, the Navarrese Led Silhouette will present ‘Halley’, a contemporary dance show directed and choreographed by Jon López and Martxel Rodríguez.

The following day, ‘Macho grito’, a musical comedy directed by and starring Alberto San Juan, is scheduled. The last performance at La Cava will feature the humour of ‘Iribarne’, by the Galician group ButacaZero.

Tickets for shows requiring them are now on sale.
