“I only fly abroad for vacation. Here, there are high prices, screens and complaining Poles everywhere”

Holidays are a time for travel. Many Poles decide to spend their vacation on the Baltic Sea or in the mountains. Our reader Anna is definitely not one of them. “Now I only fly abroad and I recommend it to everyone. Can’t afford it? If you can afford a trip to the seaside, you’ll have enough money for a trip abroad. After all, it’s the same or even better,” she wrote in a letter to the editor.

It has begun. Like every year, I listen to the stories of friends who return from the Baltic Sea or Zakopane and I wonder why they do this to themselves. For a long time, I myself was a victim of this way of thinking, but fortunately I have gotten over it.

Holidays in Poland? “You can break down. Expensive, screens and complaining”

Now I only fly abroad and I recommend it to everyone. Can’t afford it? If you can afford a trip to the seaside, you’ll have enough money for a trip abroad. After all, it’s the same, or even better. Because in Greece or Turkey you have a guarantee of good weather. And at the seaside, if you don’t get lucky, you’ll spend a whole week in a rented house and watch 3 channels on TV, because you won’t go to the beach in the rain.

And even when the weather is nice, you can break down. Crowds of people in towns, at the beach entrances and on the beaches themselves. Expensive everywhere. Screens one on top of the other. Not to mention cigarette butts and bottle caps buried in the sand. Children are playing here, and parents are enjoying another beer in the sun there. It’s beyond me. And all you can hear around you is complaining: it’s hot, the sand is too hot, or the sand is generally bothersome. Then they go into a fish and chips shop and complain about the prices. I understand this, because they can be really crazy. They also want fresh sea fish, and frozen food everywhere, no one knows what its origin is. Then a ladle of dough poured in a waffle iron for PLN 20, ice cream for PLN 10, kebabs for PLN 40… I understand that sellers have to make money, but sometimes the prices can really surprise you.

“For the same money you can easily fly abroad”

I am not happy about such holidays. For the same money you can easily fly abroad. And you don’t have to wait for the last minute or hunt for flights for 200 PLN. Decent trips cost 2-3 thousand and it comes out to the same amount when you add up the costs of accommodation, food and small pleasures in Poland. So there is no point complaining about the prices, because they are not that different from domestic holidays. I know that it is beautiful here and I do not question that it is worth supporting our tourism. But it is good to visit other countries too, if you have the opportunity, and not go to the same place every year. Best regards, Anna.
