The Navarrese filmmaker Raúl de la Fuente (Minerite, Hell, Another day of life, Damned…) has finished filming his new documentary The Williamsa “sporting and personal” story about the footballer brothers Iñaki and Nico Williams.
The film, in which EITB is involved, is “an aspirational story that talks about football but, above all, about hope, about family, about returning to roots and dreams.”
For his seventh feature film, De la Fuente has followed the Athletic Club de Bilbao footballers for two years, filming their lives from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to the recently concluded European Championship in Germany, in which Nico was proclaimed best player in the final, which he won with the Spanish national team.
Using the family’s entire personal archive, video calls and audios sent between Iñaki, Nico and their mother, recreations to narrate important sequences from the past and interviews with the Williams family, childhood friends and fans, the documentary approaches their lives “through the conflicts that have marked their lives: racism, identity, ambition, frustration and uprooting.”
