Recently I experienced a few unpleasant situations while walking. I was surprised because I didn’t think it could look like this. It’s all because of cyclists, who often don’t pay attention to anyone or anything. Some of them seem to think they are the kings of the sidewalks! Of course, I don’t mean all people who ride bikes. My husband is a keen cyclist and is always surprised when I tell him about my experiences. He also always stresses that when he uses the pavements instead of the paths, he pays attention to pedestrians. And I think this approach is the right one.
It would be good to pay attention to pedestrians
I think the situation has gotten worse in recent years. In the past, cyclists, when riding on sidewalks, paid more attention to others. Now, many of them behave as if it were a bike path. I understand that in such designated places, they can feel the most important. However, on sidewalks, it would be appropriate to pay attention to pedestrians as well.
Recently, during a long walk in Warsaw’s Wola district, I had a strange experience. Cyclists riding on the sidewalk almost ran over me. I moved out of the way to avoid a collision, and they looked at me as if it was my fault. Like I should have gotten out of their way? You’re kidding! People are going crazy with this.

She acted like everyone had to get to her
A week earlier, a woman was speeding along a bike path, not even slowing down for a pedestrian crossing. I was walking with my three-year-old daughter. I hate to think what would have happened if the child had suddenly jumped into the crosswalk. The lady on the bike didn’t slow down or stop. She acted like the whole world had to get to her. I think it would be good if such people started paying attention to others as well. Why do we need such unnecessary arguments and unpleasant situations during walks or bike rides?
