Through a statement published on their social networks, both institutions explained that the cancellation of this measure will occur until the approval of a proposal that strengthens the current regulatory framework. Let us remember that this provision was scheduled for next Monday, July 22, with the purpose of combating the theft and illegal trade of cell phones.

He Ministry of the Interior (Mininter) and Osiptel They reported that the blocking of mobile devices not registered on the Renteseg “white list”, scheduled for July 22, was suspended until the approval of a new proposal that strengthens the current regulatory framework and ensures the optimal functioning of the system.
“In this context, it is appropriate to temporarily suspend the blocking of mobile terminal equipment not registered on the Renteseg ‘White List’, until the approval of the new regulatory proposal, which will ensure the optimal functioning of the system and the achievement of its objectives in favor of the general public,” reads the statement from both institutions.
For this purpose, the Ministry of Interior will form a Multisectoral Working Group with the participation of the entities involved in the implementation and operation of Renteseg. They also recalled that on April 22 of this year, the third phase of this registry began, in accordance with the scope of Legislative Decree No. 1138, which includes cell phones registered and authorized to operate in our country.
“Renteseg has contributed to the reduction of cell phone theft (2,000 fewer cell phones stolen daily), as well as to the constant detection and blocking of devices that are altered for illegal trade, in addition to providing valuable information in the fight against various crimes,” they said.
Finally, they assured that the registration of mobile devices entering Peru will remain in force and urged importing companies to continue with this process to provide citizens with the guarantee of purchasing a device that has not been stolen.
Osiptel: How do I register my phone on the “White List”?

- Before purchasing a cell phone or mobile device, check that it is registered on the list of authorized equipment. According to Osiptel, importing companies must register the devices in the RETMIEF of Renteseg before marketing them.
- If you receive a message stating that your cell phone is not registered, check the physical and logical IMEI (*#06#). If both are the same, it is recommended that you go to the store where you purchased the device to proceed with the registration.

- Between April and June 2024, 1.1 million devices were detected not registered on the Renteseg “white list.” If the blocking of cell phones had been carried out, more than 8 million of these devices would have been affected by July 22, having a negative impact on consumers, according to Comex.
