Paulina Ozga, a social probation officer at the District Court in Środa Śląska, had 6 families under her care. The 28-year-old was very committed to her work, and her main goal was to help. This was noticed by her bosses and co-workers. In private, she was a happy wife and mother. In 2002, she married her long-time partner, with whom they had a son.
All of this was interrupted by an unimaginable tragedy. On March 16, 2010, an unaware probation officer received a phone call. An anonymous voice on the other end of the line informed her that one of the families under her supervision in Michałów was having a drinking spree. There was a 2-year-old child in the family, so Paulina decided to act without hesitation. She arrived at the scene after dark.
Paulina Ozga was lured to the crime scene
As soon as she entered the property, someone came up behind her. Later findings by investigators indicated that the act was planned with premeditation. The woman was hit in the head with a 1.5-meter metal rod. The murderer dealt the woman several more blows. He left the bloodied and battered woman to her fate and fled. The disturbing sounds that evening alarmed the aforementioned family’s neighbor. Her husband went out to check what was happening. It was he who found the brutally beaten 28-year-old. The curator’s death was the result of extensive injuries.
I have not seen such barbarity since I have been working in the emergency department for a dozen or so years.
– said Jarosław Drobnik, an emergency physician in Środa Śląska in 2010. In a nearby forest, investigators found a ready grave. Most likely dug earlier by the murderer. The killer escaped because he heard the footsteps of an approaching neighbor. At first, the suspects included family members who had organized a drinking party that evening. However, it was quickly established that none of them had killed Paulina Ozga. They were all questioned, but the statements indicated that none of them could have been involved. They claimed that at 7 p.m. everyone was already asleep. The police searched their house and found no traces or tools that would indicate their guilt. Especially since investigators began searching their property just a few minutes after the report was made.
Grzegorz S. refused to take a polygraph test
It was officially assumed that the perpetrator had deliberately lured the woman to this address. Perhaps he wanted to direct the police’s suspicions towards the family. Although the officers traced the number from which the call was made, the owner could not be found. Some time later, they came up with a new lead. It was about a friend of Paulina’s husband, Grzegorz S. The man lived in a neighboring town and – according to investigators – was in love with Paulina, his friend’s wife. The officers also determined that he was sometimes aggressive. In addition, his appearance matched the profile of the perpetrator, prepared by a police profiler.
The man gave statements that did not indicate his guilt. However, he refused to take a polygraph test, which really caught the attention of investigators, because no evidence was presented against him. A total of 100 people were questioned during the investigation, but the murderer was not found among them. In 2012, the case was dismissed. To this day, it is not known who brutally murdered the 28-year-old social worker.
Do investigators know who killed Paulina Ozga?
In 2021, Marcin Rybak, a journalist from “Gazeta Wrocławska”, returned to the case in the podcast “Mordstwo (nie)doskonałe”. The conversation showed that people involved in the investigation are almost certain who is behind this cruel act. However, there is not enough evidence to bring the perpetrator to court. The murdered woman’s loved ones still believe in justice and that the murderer will spend the rest of his life behind bars. 14 years have passed since this cruel crime in March 2024. When Paulina Ozga died, her son was only 4 years old, today he is 18. The young woman’s killer remains elusive.
