At the end of 2020, Jeff Bridges announced that doctors had diagnosed him with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a malignant tumor of the lymphatic system. The tumor grew to a huge size, but it did not show any symptoms. In 2021, the actor contracted COVID-19, which almost cost him his life. Very low immunity after chemotherapy gave Bridges virtually no chance of surviving such a severe infection. “I was close to death. Doctors kept telling me, ‘Jeff, you have to fight. You don’t fight.’ I was in surrender mode. I was ready to go. I was dancing with my mortality,” he explained a few years ago in an interview with “People” magazine.
On July 10, Jeff Bridges performed at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour. The actor talked about working on the series “The Old Man,” in which he played the role of the main character Johnny Kohler. He also mentioned how he feels after months of treatment. “I feel great now. What’s the strangest thing for me, though, is that while working on the first season of the series, I had to do fight scenes, and I had a 20-centimeter tumor in my body, in my stomach, that didn’t hurt at all. It’s quite a surprise to me,” he explained.
In 2023, the actor reported that the treatment had brought the expected results, and the tumor had significantly decreased. The remission of the disease allowed Bridges to fulfill other professional obligations. The premiere of the second season of “The Old Man” with the actor’s participation has already been scheduled for September 2024, while in 2025 the third part of the cult science fiction series “Tron: Ares” will hit cinemas.
