Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist sued; family of deceased demands justice
The lawsuit against the guitarist was filed by the family of the late Israel Sanchez. Josh Klinghoffer was accused of, among other things, failure to maintain a vigilance while driving and failure to apply brakes immediately before a pedestrian crossing. Information about the incident, which took place in March, was confirmed in the media by the guitarist’s lawyer, Andrew B. Brettler. He emphasized that his client did not flee the scene of the accident and called the emergency services. “This was a tragic accident. After the car hit the pedestrian, Josh immediately pulled over to the side of the road, stopped the vehicle, called 911 and waited for the police and ambulance to arrive. He fully cooperated with the investigation into the accident,” Andrew B. Brettler said in a statement sent to Pitchfork.
The family of the deceased 47-year-old also issued a statement. Sanchez’s loved ones believe that the musician should be arrested and punished for the man’s death. “Mr. Klinghoffer should be arrested and charged with murder. We have video of him talking on a cell phone when he hit and killed Israel Sanchez, his beloved father, on a crosswalk,” Rowley emphasized in an interview with “Variety.”
“The loss and grief that the Sanchez family is now facing is immense. We will not stop until Mr. Sanchez and his family receive justice,” the lawyer added.
Josh Klinghoffer was a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 2009 to 2019. He currently supports Eddie Vedder and his band Pearl Jam in the studio and on stage.
