Jerzy Stuhr conquered the Opole festival with this song. The song became a hit

June 1977 – it was then that Jerzy Stuhr performed for the first and last time at the Opole festival with the song “¦piewać kto¿dy mo¿e”. The song, which was actually created as a joke, was applauded by the audience, and after the end of the competition it immediately became a nationwide hit. The song itself was later referred to many times, among others in the cartoon “Shrek” and the game show “Millionaires”.

The hit that caused a sensation during the 15th National Festival of Polish Song in Opole was created in rather unusual circumstances. Jerzy Stuhr was staying in a hotel room with the author of the lyrics and poet Jonasz Kofta. From word to word, the gentlemen came up with the idea of writing the lyrics on a napkin. Initially, the actor wanted to recite the song to the festival audience. However, Stanisław Syrewicz, a composer who happened to be staying in the same hotel as Kofta and Stuhr, rushed to help and agreed to create a simple melody for it. This is how the iconic song “Śpiewać każdy może” was created, which stole the hearts of the event’s participants and later also the whole of Poland.

Jerzy Stuhr has died. With his song “Everyone can sing” he conquered the festival in Opole

“It was created by accident the night before the concert. In the Opole hotel at night, at 00:30, with the line-up of Jonasz Kofta, Stanisław Syrewicz, Friedman, Młynarski on the occasion of the festival. Jonasz immediately wrote ‘Everyone can sing’ on a napkin and somehow it lasted. And Mr. Syrewicz says: ‘Oh, I once had a little song like that in a cabaret’. And after half an hour we were all over Opole. And when I sang it, all the journalists immediately said: to the competition! Grand Prix!” – Stuhr recalled in an interview with Radio Opole.

Before the audience in Opole heard the performance of “Śpiewać każdy może” for the first time, a jingle was played from the speakers, which Jerzy Stuhr did not like. The actor then shouted from the stage: “Enough of this violin blandness!” and began the performance. Many years later, the words of the cult song were uttered by Donkey, the hero of the cartoon “Shrek”, voiced by Jerzy Stuhr himself. A question about the song was also asked by Hubert Urbański on the game show “Millionaires”.

On July 9, 2024, the media reported the death of Jerzy Stuhr. The information was provided by Onet, citing a conversation with his son Maciej Stuhr. Although the official cause is not yet known, it is known that the actor had been struggling with various health problems for a long time.
