Nettle slurry is an excellent fertilizer for hydrangeas and other garden plants. It contains nutrients that are extremely important for their proper development, such as iron, potassium, calcium and silicon. To prepare the fertilizer you will need a kilogram of nettles and 10 liters of water.
TIP! The best water for making slurry is rainwater. Just place buckets or barrels under the gutters and during rainfall you will certainly be able to collect the right amount.
- Place chopped nettles in a large bucket and fill it with water.
- Place a foil over the container and poke a few holes in the top. Air access is necessary for proper fermentation.
- Every day for two weeks, mix the slurry thoroughly and cover again.
- If after this time the fertilizer stops foaming and emits a characteristic smell, it is ready for use.
- Strain the slurry and dilute it. For each part of the mixture, 10 parts of water.
- Water your hydrangeas from the bottom, avoiding contact with the leaves and flowers. During the flowering period, do this every 2-3 weeks.
