Say goodbye to crow’s feet. We know which glasses best protect your eyes from the sun

Nothing completes an outfit like a pair of sunglasses. But those tinted lenses do a lot more than just look good. The right pair of sunglasses can provide important protection from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, which can wreak havoc on your skin.

The good news is that you don’t have to sacrifice style for safety when shopping for sunglasses. But you need to know what to look for, because how you protect your eyes now can play a big role later in life. and we’re not just talking about reducing the number of wrinkles.

Sunglasses come in all sizes, shapes and colors.

While good looks are important when it comes to safety glasses, the labeling is the focus. Most reputable brands list UV protection on a visible sticker or tag. Look for sunglasses that offer 100% protection against all UV rays (UVA and UVB) or 100% UV 400 protection.

Pay attention to the color of the lenses

Sunglasses with darker or mirrored lenses do not necessarily provide better protection. Tint and color have no effect on UV protection. Mirrored lenses can reduce the amount of light entering your eyes, but unless the label says they provide 100% UV protection, you shouldn’t assume they work. If you have a chronic eye condition such as macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy, consider amber or brown lenses, which can help you see better.

Don’t be fooled by polarization. It’s not always the most important thing

Polarized lenses are more comfortable for most people because they reduce glare from light reflecting off surfaces like water, snow, and roads. However, polarization does not provide any protection against UV radiation. Some polarized lenses also offer UV filtering, so choose those with maximum protection.
