He is the father of a thousand children all over the world, Netflix made a series about him. The man commented

Netflix has released a documentary about Jonathan Jacob Meijer, a Dutch musician who gained fame not so much for his work, but for a worldwide scandal. The man became famous when it was revealed that he is the father of several hundred children around the world. The documentary series entitled “The Man with 1000 Children” talks about up to 1000 children who were born thanks to donated sperm, but experts still have a hard time estimating how many descendants Meijer actually had.

“Several families learn that the charismatic man they trusted is the father of hundreds — if not thousands — of children living around the world,” Netflix has announced in a new documentary about Jonathan Jacob Meijer, a self-proclaimed “serial sperm donor.”

During the investigation against the man, it was revealed that he had been donating his sperm to sperm banks around the world. In the Netherlands alone, he reported to 11 facilities. According to the local regulations, one donor can father a maximum of 25 children. However, the legal system does not provide for clear penalties for those who do not comply with them. In addition to sperm banks, Jonathan Jacob Meijer is also supposed to have contacted couples and women who wanted to welcome children into the world.

The affected families tell in the Netflix documentary about their cooperation with the man and that he inspired exceptional trust among them. Meijer allegedly convinced parents eager for offspring that he had only helped five families so far (in some cases he swore that it was his first time). The procedure was revealed by one of the women who used the “help” of a sperm donor. “If I had known that he had already fathered over 100 children, I would never have chosen him. When I think about the consequences that this could have on my child, I feel sick,” she explained on social media.

The case caught the attention of the Dutch foundation Donkorkind, which filed a civil lawsuit against the man on behalf of 150 parents. In 2017, he was officially banned from donating his sperm to Dutch sperm banks, and all samples from him were destroyed.

In a video posted to YouTube, the man criticized the Netflix documentary, saying the production was misleading viewers. “I did absolutely nothing wrong. This documentary is an attack on my character and a distortion of the truth,” the man swore. In an interview with LADBible.com, Meijer said the documentary should have been titled “The Man Who Helped Thousands of Families” and not “The Man with 1,000 Kids.”
