This is how “Miodowe lata” came into being. For over 20 years, few people knew about it. Surprised?

Almost two decades have passed since the last episode of “Miodowe” lat was broadcast, and yet not all the secrets from behind the scenes have seen the light of day. It turns out that the sounds of laughter that appear as a reaction to the funniest scenes of the series were not actually added in post-production. How is that possible?

is undoubtedly one of the most iconic sitcoms in the history of Polish television. The first episode premiered on Polsat in October 1998 and almost immediately became a hit. Since then, for the next 6 years, viewers have been following with interest the life adventures and crazy adventures of two friendly couples living in an old tenement house in Warsaw’s Wola district.

“The Honeymooners” used to be a hit. That was the plot of the cult sitcom

The main characters of the sitcom were Karol Krawczyk (), the tram driver of tram no. 18, and his close friend and neighbor Tadeusz Norek (), a canal worker. It was their “brilliant ideas” that set the plot in motion. Both dreamed of becoming millionaires, so they kept thinking of a new way to make a fortune without putting in too much effort. Needless to say, most of the businesses usually ended in failure, which often brought them various problems. Then their much more sensible wives Alina Krawczyk (played first by Agnieszka Pilszewska, and later by Katarzyna Żak) and Danuta Norek () stepped into action.

On the wave of popularity of the production, Polsat decided to create a sequel entitled “Całkiem nowe lata miodowe”. Consisting of 17 episodes, it focused on the fate of the Krawczyks and Noreks after they bought twin houses in the Wawer district from their only successfully completed investment so far. However, the move did not change their attitude to life and mentality. They implemented their business ideas with poor results, while their wives founded a thriving company. The storyline ended with the birth of the Krawczyks’ daughter and the Noreks’ son.

How was the series “Miodowe lata” filmed? Żak and Barciś revealed behind-the-scenes secrets of the series

Fans of “Miodowe lata” certainly remember how laughter came from the screen during the funniest moments. Many were convinced at the time that this sound was added in post-production. It turns out that the creators found a completely different way to do it. As we know, the recordings were made on the stage of the Jewish Theatre in Warsaw. Few people know, however, that each of them involved the audience and it is the reactions of these viewers that can be heard in the episodes. In the podcast “WojewódzkiKędzierski”, Żak admitted that it was often a challenge, which is why the production hired a person who, when the audience laughed too long, showed a banner with the word “silence”.

This is still not the end of surprises. As we know, a similar motif has also appeared in other Polish productions. In one of the interviews, they revealed that the laughter recorded during the production of their sitcom was later used many times by the station. The exact same recordings were supposed to appear in the series “Daleko od noszy” or the cult . Did you know about that? If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
