The editorial office of the weekly “NIE” also said goodbye to Kuchanny. “A wonderful journalist, satirist and friend,” we read in a post on Facebook, which received condolences and sympathy from the magazine’s readers. “Huge loss, it’s hard to believe”, “It’s a pity”, “Sad news”, “Condolences to your loved ones” – we read under the entry.

In May 2023, after years spent at the weekly “NIE”, Waldemar Kuchanny became the editor-in-chief of the magazine. Before Jerzy Urban’s death, the journalist served as deputy editor-in-chief for ten years. Kuchanny joined the weekly “NIE” in 2002, having previously worked for 11 years at the local branch of “Gazeta Wyborcza” in the Tri-City.

Just a year ago, Kuchanna declared that he would continue Urban’s work. “We will open ourselves to young people, but the editorial line will not change significantly. As Jerzy Urban’s bastards, we do not intend to bring shame to our father,” the press.pl website quoted the journalist as saying. “We are the weekly with the largest number of satirical cartoons and it will remain so. We refer and will refer to the French satirical weekly ‘Charlie Hebdo’,” he emphasized.
