Power outages sometimes occur everywhere, especially in small towns and during storms. It would seem that it is nothing serious, but the lack of light, as well as access to the internet, including for payments, can make life quite difficult. What can be done about it? You can prepare in advance by stocking up on certain items. And what? And what else should you remember when protecting yourself in the event of a power grid failure? We explain.

Preparations for the time (and therefore the Internet) should start with stocking up on items such as (via EWE.pl and Dinamo.pl):

  • candles and matches (lighters),
  • flashlights (good quality and durable) and batteries,
  • power banks (charged),
  • cash – to be able to pay for purchases when there is no internet access.

In addition, people who live in houses should consider buying a generator and a camping stove with a fuel supply. It is also worth having a supply of drinking water, food that does not require refrigeration, as well as dressings and medicines, especially painkillers and those taken regularly. Parents of toddlers should also stock up on diapers, milk or food, and medicines (if the child is taking any). In turn, people driving cars should have a fuel supply.

What else can you do to best prepare for a long time? First of all, it is worth writing down the telephone numbers of your loved ones, as well as emergency numbers, on a piece of paper. In addition, it is also worth purchasing things such as:

  • Battery-powered or accumulator-powered radio – to have some contact and be able to follow messages,
  • analogue sources of entertainment – in order not to get bored without electricity, it is worth stocking up on various books, magazines, board games and crosswords, including those for children.

In autumn and winter, in case of a power outage, it is worth buying warm clothes, a rescue blanket (a type of thermal foil), and a heating source, for example a gas cylinder heater. You just need to remember about good ventilation of the room.
