Young chef Carmy inherits his family’s sandwich shop after the death of his older brother. He trades work in Michelin-starred restaurants for a debt-ridden place with a dilapidated kitchen and disorganized staff. The plot of the series “The Bear” does not seem exciting at first glance, but after the premiere of the production, it turned out to be one of the best-rated series in recent years.
The Bear’s Third Season Disappointed Viewers, But Critics Still Love It
The first season of the production received a 100% freshness rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The second did just as well and solidified the series’ position on the market. Awards poured in after its premiere. The next installment of Carmy’s struggles and his unruly crew was awarded three Golden Globes, and the latest season of the series is one of the most anticipated series of 2024.
In Poland, the third season of “The Bear” will debut on Disney Plus on July 17, but the premiere has already taken place abroad. The first opinions about the series may worry its fans. Critics were again delighted with the series (94% on the Rotten Tomatoes scale). Although there are voices that it was difficult to reach the level of the previous seasons, fans of Carmy’s kitchen revolutions should be satisfied. Except… they’re not.
“The heart and soul of this show is gone.”
The gap between reviewer and viewer ratings on Rotten Tomatoes for the third season of “The Bear” is striking. The latter has posted over 500 reviews on the site, which resulted in a score of only 59 percent on the freshness scale. The reviews repeat the statement that viewers are bored with the series’ formula, which this time has disappointed their expectations. “It wants to be art so much that it forgets about the plot,” writes one person who has already watched it. “The heart and soul of this series are gone,” adds another.

However, a large number of ratings after such a short time after the premiere and a wave of negative opinions from viewers do not necessarily result from an actual decline in the quality of the series. As the history of review bombing has taught us, viewers can get angry about individual plot developments to such an extent that they sometimes boycott the entire series for this reason, completely disregarding its other aspects in their reviews.
