Correct is one of the most important rules regarding plant cultivation. It is worth remembering how, when and in what quantities to do it not only in the case of those ornamental flowers that you grow in pots. It turns out that you can also make mistakes, and disastrous ones at that, in the garden.
How Not to Water Your Garden Plants? This Is the Worst Thing You Can Do
The most common and biggest mistake in watering vegetables, fruit and flowers is the wrong time. In summer, especially on a hot and sunny day, you should not water your plants in the middle of the day, i.e. from 9-10 a.m. to around 4 p.m. Why are these times different? This is when the sun shines the brightest. Watering at these times will cause it to evaporate quickly, and the plant will not have time to absorb it from the soil. Additionally, drops deposited on the leaves will concentrate the sun’s rays and lead to burns and the formation of unsightly spots. These, in turn, can attract bacteria and fungi. Regardless of the time of day or year, do not pour water on the leaves.
WARNING! It’s not just the time that matters. Never water your garden plants with water straight from a well, hose or tap. Cold, often icy, water will shock them, weaken them, expose them to pests and diseases, and above all, prevent them from developing properly, and instead, they will wither.

How to Water Your Garden Properly? Follow these three rules and check when it is best to water your garden
When and how to water the garden in summer, but not only? Three rules are most important. Sticking to them will ensure that your plants grow healthy and lush. You already know not to reach for ice-cold water and not to do it in the middle of the day. What else should you watch out for? If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
- Water with lukewarm water or at room temperature. Rainwater is best. Leave the water in the watering can for at least 30 minutes to warm up before watering. If you water directly from the hose, choose the smallest possible stream of water and water the plants less abundantly, but more often.
- Water your garden early in the morning or late in the evening. There is one exception to this rule. If you see that the plant is starting to stagnate due to lack of water, you can water it. However, remember to water it carefully and do not wet the leaves or stems.
- Be careful with the amount of water. Do not water with the strongest possible streams, do not splash water over entire bushes or flower beds. Too little water is also a bad idea. How to water? Pour the water slowly and take short breaks, while observing whether the water soaks into the soil. When it starts to stay on the surface, it’s a sign that you can stop watering.
