Holidays are often associated with the sound of waves and golden sand. Meanwhile, more and more people are heading to the mountains instead of the sea. You don’t need to travel to Italy or Switzerland to enjoy their majesty. Visit the Tatra Mountains at the turn of July and August. The views will be breathtaking.

The Tatras are the highest mountain range in the Carpathians. Their area is 785 km2, of which only a little over 22 percent lies in Poland. Nevertheless, it can be safely said that this is enough to make every hiking enthusiast fall in love with them. Especially since many trails are within reach of even the least experienced hikers. Of course, with the reservation that even on the seemingly easy ones you should be careful and not stray from the marked paths. Where to head in the summer? Definitely to Hala Gąsienicowa, which will soon bloom with hundreds of thousands of purple-pink flowers.

Where is the best place to go to the mountains in the summer? Be amazed by the Tatras

There are several routes leading to Hala Gąsienicowa, However, if this is your first visit, it is worth choosing the classic route and starting the hike from Kuźnice, i.e. from the place where the popular cable car to Kasprowy starts. It’s best to get here by public transport, as the nearest parking lots are a bit earlier. After purchasing an admission ticket (PLN 10), set off along the blue trail through Boczań. Although the initial approach can be a struggle, once you leave the forest, beautiful views will appear before your eyes, which will certainly give you wings. A sharp eye will spot not only the first Tatra peaks on one side, but also Babia Góra or Trzy Korony on the opposite.

Behind the Pass between Kopy, be especially careful, because it is quite steep in this place. You should check in at Hala Gąsienicowa by approx. 2:15 minutes from startalthough of course a lot depends on your condition. The trail is not difficult, but it goes uphill all the time, so it requires some effort. At Hala Gąsienicowa you can admire the wonderful panorama of the Tatra Mountains with the characteristic, triangular peak of Kościelec in the background. It is worth coming here at any time of the year, but in summer it has its own special charm. In mid-July and at the turn of August, the green valley is covered with a sea of ​​purple-pink flowers, called willow-herb. You have certainly encountered this sight somewhere on the Internet. Even though it looks like something from a fairy tale, it is within your reach.

At Hala Gąsienicowa you can rest, visit the PTTK Murowaniec shelter, where you can buy not only souvenirs, but also delicious food, or move on. There are plenty of options. If you still have some strength, but you don’t necessarily dream of climbing to the top, continue along the blue trail. Only 1.5 km separates you from the beautiful Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy, which can be reached relatively easily via a stone road and steps. Return to Kuźnice the same way. Alternatively, at the Między Kopami Pass, you can take the yellow trail, i.e. the Jaworzynka Valley. Half of the route leads steeply downhill, along stone steps, but the rest is much gentler. Before you go to the Tatra Mountains, remember a few things that are important for your safety. Above all:

  • follow the weather forecasts, and if they predict storms, refrain from going out. Remember, the weather in the mountains changes quickly,
  • measure your intentions,
  • stock up on enough water and snacks,
  • always carry a paper map,
  • wear comfortable mountain footwear, also in summer. The comfort is incomparable,
