It would seem that the presence of a photographer at a wedding and reception is an indispensable element of every celebration. After all, it is a special day in the life of each couple, and the commemorative photos are a beautiful record of these magical moments and the emotions that accompany us on that day. Surprisingly, however, more and more couples are resigning from the services of a photographer during a wedding party.
A wedding without a photographer. “I wanted to avoid embarrassing situations”
This solution was chosen by Małgosia, who hired a photographer only for the wedding. And while her decision may seem a bit shocking, in her opinion, it helped to avoid many uncomfortable situations. – We wanted the wedding to take place in a really cheerful and relaxed atmosphere, and it cannot be concealed that the presence of the photographer is really embarrassing for many people – says Małgosia in an interview with woman.gazeta.pl.
As she explains, she herself has unpleasant memories related to the commemorative photos from weddings, which, moreover, influenced her decision. – Some time ago I had fun at my friend’s wedding, during which the seam in my dress broke, showing all the guests my underwear. As if that was not enough, the photographer captured the whole event – he recalls. The embarrassing photo was included in the album made available to guests by the bride and groom, thus making Małgosia a subject of jokes. – It would seem that adult people will show a bit of tact, but unfortunately … I have had a lot of unpleasantness because of this, and although the situation may seem comical to someone, I really was not laughing – she says, clearly ashamed of the situation being described.
So, wanting to avoid similar problems, she and her fiancé decided that the photographer would only be present at the wedding. – We decided that the photos from the official part of the ceremony are the most important for us. We also had a session with all the guests right after the service, so I don’t feel like we’ve lost something important. Why do we need compromising photos of guests having fun? I do not think that they are a significant souvenir for us, to which we often come back – says Małgosia firmly, for whom her and her guests’ well-being was more important than photography.
“It would increase unnecessary stress”
Kasia, who also resigned from the services of a photographer during the wedding, also decided on a similar solution. – The wedding, although beautiful, was a very stressful event for us. We wanted to celebrate it with family and friends, so we decided to organize the wedding, but we wanted it to proceed according to the rules we set – says Kasia, who decided on many “non-standard” solutions during the wedding. – We resigned not only from the photographer’s services, but also from the first dance or kiss in front of the guests – he admits. – My husband and I are introverts and do not feel very well being the center of attention. The presence of a photographer would only increase unnecessary stress, and during the wedding we just wanted to have fun with our loved ones – he explains.
What’s more, Kasia asked her guests not to use their phones during the wedding and reception. – I didn’t give up on the photographer at the wedding so that the guests took over his role. So when handing out the invitations, we asked them not to take pictures with their phones and not to record any videos, ‘he says.
She admitted that her decisions were also influenced by past experiences. – During my sister’s wedding, one of the aunts close to us shared a live report on the network, which all her friends could see on Facebook … What’s worst, she did not refrain from indiscriminate comments about the dancing people, and everything could be heard on recording – remembers Kasia, who wanted to avoid such situations. – This is our day and our celebration, and we did not wish other people to boast about our private lives online – he sums up.
