“All this rap” is a song that appeared on the 2003 album “Mixtape 3” by the legendary member of Slums Attack, DJ Decks. On the album, the artist managed to gather the then top Polish rappers. In the songs you can hear Sokół, Peja, Tedego, Hemp Gru, Vień, Włodi and many others. It is therefore not surprising that the document intended to describe that era took its name from the album.
“All this rap.” Netflix has made a documentary about Polish rap
“Nothing about them without them. ‘Cały ten rap’, a documentary series about the Polish rap scene described in the words of its creators” – announces his latest production. This one is to present viewers not only the Polish history of the music genre itself, but its entire culture, and above all the business behind popular performers.
On the screen we will see the process of importing cassettes, copying records that led rappers to millions of online reach, filling stadiums and opening independent music empires.
“Netflix’s first Polish documentary series gives a voice to all of them: from the first generation that fought against stereotypes while creating others, to the one that, taking advantage of its popularity, elevated rap to the position of a genre that still sets the most important trends. This is a story about rap in the words of Sokół, TEDE, Widow, Szczyl, Young Leosia and many others” – we read in the description of the production, three episodes of which will be pre-premiered during the New Horizons film festival.
Netflix invests in rap. First a talent show, now a documentary
Piotr Szubstarski is responsible for directing the series, and the premiere date of the production is not yet known. You will be able to watch several episodes on New Horizons on July 24 as part of a special screening.
This is not Netflix’s first investment in the rap community recently. The platform recently announced the “New Deal: Rhythm + Flow Polska” program. It will be a musical talent show led by Sokół, Bedoes and Dziarma, whose task is to find new players who will conquer the Polish rap market with their skills and freshness.
