Every year, new titles appear on the list and series. Some attract crowds and quickly become hits, others go unnoticed. And what about those that are considered absolute classics of Polish cinema? Kino Polska Group decided to check it out. She conducted research among individual generations of Poles. The results are truly surprising.
How many Poles watch domestic productions? The study results don’t lie
Zymteria Research Agency, commissioned by the Kino Polska Group, conducted a study entitled “Popularity of Polish films among Polish viewers”. It shows that the vast majority of its participants eagerly reach for Polish productions. What is also surprising is the fact that as many as 59% do it at least once a week, and 1/3 every day or 2 to 3 times a week.
3/4 of respondents admitted that they enjoyed watching domestic titles. They are of particular interest among the baby boomer generation, i.e. people aged 58-65. From this group, 85% of people said that Polish films convey valuable and thought-provoking content. Moreover, as many as 8 out of 10 viewers declare that they watch productions that premiered before 2000. Which of them enjoy the greatest recognition?

According to the study, contemporary productions are not as interesting for Poles as classics from years ago. “Janosik” turned out to be the undisputed favorite, followed by “Psy” directed by . A crime story with Bogusław Linda and is also very popular among millennials (30-44 years old), unlike Generation Z (16-29 years old), which considers the Oscar-nominated “Korczak” to be the most cult production. There is a common belief that new domestic comedies do not entertain even Poles, but this is completely different in the case of cult titles in this genre. According to the decision of more than half of the respondents, “Kogel Mogel” from 1988 is considered the funniest film. Among millennials, the undisputed favorite is “Sami swoi”, the first part of Sylwester Chęciński’s hit series from 1967.
