Not long ago, the global rankings of the most popular Netflix films were conquered by the production “Colors of Evil: Red”, the film still did not drop from the top, but had to give way to another Polish production. The top of the list of most watched foreign-language films last week belongs to Polish creators again!
Another Polish film number one in the Netflix top!
We are talking about the production “Spadek” directed by Sylwester Jakimow with a script by Łukasz Sychowicz. The film is a comedy about an eccentric inventor who dies in mysterious circumstances, and his family fights for the inheritance of his wealthy uncle. The plot sounds familiar? Nothing unusual.
“If you’ve watched ‘Knives Out’, nothing in ‘The Inheritance’ will surprise you,” writes Magda Walma from Gazeta.pl in her review of the film. “The problem would be much smaller if the crime story had something to defend itself. It actually has great set design, but we’ve already seen it in ‘Knives Out’. It would probably have funny jokes if we hadn’t already heard them in ‘1670’, where they were much, much better The crime mystery would be more fun if it was more in the style of ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ – more brutal and bloody than fun. The title would also defend itself if it was immediately assumed that it would be a crime story for children – but there is too much sex and too much vulgarity, so this category is also out. It is neither a gripping crime story, nor a family film, nor a suspenseful drama, nor a picture with a complicated story,” he adds.
“Decline” conquers Netflix. The reviewers were not impressed
There is no shortage of poor reviews of the film online. “We have ‘Knives Out’ at home. Nice cast, even nice styling, but lacks any real panache,” writes Mateusz Żebrowski from Drugi Sénas about the production, while Tomasz Raczek gives the film only three stars on Filmweb, and Karolina Korwin Piotrowska does the same.
Despite poor reviews, the film aroused considerable interest. In the week after the film’s premiere on Netflix, viewers spent over 16 million hours watching it. The production was watched by 10.5 million viewers worldwide. The Polish comedy managed to overtake in the statistics the great hit of the platform that has dominated the charts for recent weeks, the absurd horror “Sharks in the Seine”. “The Fall” appeared on the list of the 10 most watched films in as many as 57 countries with access to Netflix.
