For some time now, members of the Film Academy have been considering new features that would be introduced before the 95th Academy Awards in 2025. The plans include, among others: combining the “best actress” and “best actor” categories into one. What’s behind this idea? They have been arguing for many years that treatment and earnings in the industry depend on gender. For this reason, the organizers want to demonstrate readiness for change and, at the same time, opposition to any inequalities and divisions.
The final decision has not been made yet, as all the advantages and disadvantages of such a solution are still being analyzed. – We are currently exploring this topic with the Awards, Membership, Equality and Inclusion committees and soon with the Board of Governors. The topic is at an early stage of consideration and many more conversations will have to take place. We are checking what it could look like, said Academy director Bill Kramer in an interview with Variety. However, this is not the end of surprises.

They are responsible for preparing offers that will be taken into account by the Council, just like the casting process, Kramer explained.
