Only 17 percent meat. “It’s better to spread dog food on your sandwich.” A dietitian about the popular spread

The meat market in Poland is doing very well. We can find many valuable products in stores, but some cry to heaven for vengeance. The dietitian went to the supermarket and looked at the ingredients of two pâtés. The conclusions are surprising.

The sandwich with pâté, tomato and onion is the queen of many camping trips. It’s hard to imagine a simpler meal that can be prepared outdoors. It turns out that some spreads have nothing to do with real pâté. How is this possible? The dietitian explains.

What is pâté made of? Wrzosek left us with no doubts

Michał Wrzosek posted a video on Instagram in which he examines the ingredients of two popular pâtés. It may surprise everyone that the first basic ingredient is water. The next step is even more interesting, because the meat content in the package is only 17%.. In addition, it is mechanically separated meat, so it contains, for example, cartilage, tendons or animal skin. Another ingredient is fat, which is a carrier of flavor, and at the very end, spices.

he also compared the second “meat” product with the composition of dog food. As it turned out? There is definitely more meat in a can for your pet than in a pâté. Internet users reacted, and in the comments under the video we can read:

What conclusion? That it’s better to spread dog food on the sandwich.

Let he who didn’t eat it as a child, especially the tomato version, cast the first stone.

It still sells and people buy it. It’s strange that there are no regulations prohibiting the sale of such things.

How to make a simple homemade pâté? You won’t buy ready-made products in the store anymore

If you love pâté and find it hard to give it up, choose its healthy, home-made version. The right selection of vegetables and meat will make it delicious for the whole family and everyone will ask for a helping of it. To prepare this melt-in-your-mouth chicken pâté, you will need:

  • 200 g chicken liver,
  • 400 g of broth meat,
  • 2 carrots and 2 parsley from the broth,
  • egg,
  • 2 onions,
  • 250 ml of broth,
  • 1 roll,
  • 2 cloves of garlic,
  • 3 bay leaves, 3 allspice grains, pepper, salt, marjoram, nutmeg,
  • fat for greasing the mold and breadcrumbs for dusting it.

ADVICE! While kneading the mass, you can experiment with spices and add e.g. hot pepper or curry, which will make the meat more distinctive. If you like fruity flavors, add dried cranberries or smoked plums. You are only limited by your taste and imagination.

Cook the liver in a little water with a bay leaf and allspice until soft. Pour the broth into a bowl and soak the bun in it for 5 minutes. Then grind twice in a meat grinder: liver, peeled chicken, onion, bun squeezed from the broth and vegetables from the broth. Add the egg to the mixture, season and mix thoroughly. Grease a 21 x 11 baking tin with e.g. butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Place the pâté in it, sprinkle some breadcrumbs on top and bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for an hour.
