This is a common mistake made by young couples at weddings. That’s not how you do it! “Very unpleasant for guests”

Times are changing and customs related to wedding gifts are changing. Although there was a time when there was freedom in this matter and young people were happy with every gift they received for a new path in life, today it is mainly cash that is appreciated. However, its use is controversial. Recently, an expert on savoir-vivre pointed out a common mistake made by young couples.

Every year during the wedding season, many questions arise regarding wedding etiquette. How much should you put in the envelope? What color should not be worn to a wedding? How to seat guests? Should alcohol appear on the wedding table and is it appropriate to organize a party to which children are not invited? These and other issues are discussed on social media by savoir vivre experts. Recently, Aleksandra Pakuła drew attention to the issue of accepting envelopes. It turns out that more and more couples lose themselves in the eyes of guests by committing a faux pas at the very beginning of the party.

Envelope boxes at weddings are a faux pas

Aleksandra Pakuła looked at the fashion for boxes into which wedding invitees put envelopes with wedding gifts. “Envelope boxes have become very fashionable. They are comfortable, it’s true, but in order for them to remain elegant, they must be used skillfully,” she noted in her Instagram post.

Then the expert noticed that the way a couple receives a gift says a lot about their attitude towards guests. Young people should therefore appreciate their gesture. “Let’s not treat guests and their gifts as objects – let’s not ask them to throw them in immediately, bypassing us. Let’s accept the gift – this gesture is important,” she emphasized.

The young people at the entrance shouted to the guests. “The gifts are not for us, but for the table”

Her recording was viewed by over 160 thousand people. The expert’s theory that guests may feel offended by such a practice was confirmed in the comments. “It looks bad at weddings. The best man stands next to the bride and groom with a box, it looks like a wedding buy-in”, “I am offended by how the young couple do not even take the gift in their hands, but immediately say: ‘Give it to the best man’. It is very weak, because as you say, someone had to work for this gift. It is often half of their salary”, “Asking to put money directly into the box is very unpleasant for guests. It resembles a wedding collection, not a gift” – we read.

One Instagram user even shared a specific story. “I was at a wedding where the bride and groom shouted to the guests as they entered: The gifts are not for us, but for the table. It was a bit sad because they didn’t even know what they got from whom,” she wrote. Another person said: “Weddings are no longer about celebrating together. Young people just want to make money. Unfortunately, that’s how I see it.”
