On June 13, the fourth season of “The Boys” was released on Amazon Prime Video. According to the website, the next part of the superhero story attracted 21% more viewers than the previous one in just four days after its premiere. The production recorded the highest viewership in Brazil, Great Britain and India. It was in the last mentioned country that one of the scenes presented to the audience in the latest season had to be censored.
Indian viewers won’t see this scene in ‘The Boys’
We’re talking about a scene involving Splinter, a hero with a power that allows him to split in half and clone himself multiple times. A man is caught by Frenchie and Kimiko masturbating in the sauna. However, he is not alone, because he is also accompanied by several clones in the room, performing the same action on each other. The said scene looked slightly different in the Indian version. The creators not only removed Splinter’s clones, but also showed a shot from the front so that the magazine the hero is holding in his hand partially obscures it.
Although the scene was censored in India, viewers in many other countries were able to watch it in the original version. The screenwriter himself did not hide his surprise at this fact, admitting in an interview with Collider: “It’s just a crazy scene. I don’t remember who came up with this idea in the writers’ room, but I think the exact quote was: ‘Well, if you you clone, of course, you’ll have a human centipede that will eat its own ass.’… That’s the one scene where I just can’t believe it happened.”
The fourth season of “The Boys” aroused a lot of controversy, not only due to the censorship of the mentioned scene. Some viewers did not like the politicization of the message and the accompanying criticism of Donald Trump. As a result, the latest season of the series recorded lower ratings on Rotten Tomatoes than in the case of previous seasons. Only 50% of viewers liked the 4th season of the production. For comparison, previous episodes were positively rated by 75% of viewers.
