These are slightly different viewers than those who knew Tomasz Kot perfectly well, e.g. from “Gods”, “Cold War” or “Wielka Woda”, because there are many children among them. Do young viewers call after Kot in the streets “Mr. Kleksa, Mr. Kleksa”? We asked the actor about this during the event, during which, among others, media representatives and creators could see the first fragments of “The Kleks and the Invention of Filip Golarz”. Not all children recognize it, usually parents tell their children that this is the man who plays Kleks – Tomasz Kot began, but he also recalled a recent situation from the shopping center – he talks about it in the video.
Tomasz Kot on whether children recognize him on the street as Mr. Kleks. What particularly moves him?
The actor admits in an interview with Marta Korycka from kuli.gazeta.pl that these are amazing moments when he has the opportunity to meet Kleks’ fans who have been there for several years. – It’s the most touching thing when these kids start hugging each other like that, hugging each other like they want to punch each other, grab each other. So when I feel after this hug that Kleks is someone very important to them, it is always moving – he says.
Tomasz Kot met Janusz Chabior when he was 16. How does he remember it?
Tomasz Kot also talked about the challenge of working on two parts at the same time – the creators were shooting simultaneously for “Mr. Kleks’ Academy” and its sequel. On the set of “Kleks and the Invention of Filip Golarz”, Janusz Chabior played the second title role, next to Mr. Kleks. It turns out that this actor played an important role in Kot’s life at the beginning of his career. The actor recalls:
When I was 16 years old and no one liked my choice to be an actor, apart from my siblings, I went to the theater, to the Goniec Teatralny club, and there was Janusz Chabior, an actor without any papers, who simply came and turned out to be so talented, that he became an actor, he ran a club for young people. And that’s how I met Jaś, when no one knew him, no one knew me, and I was a little shit to whom he told: “No, play it this way or that.” And it was something amazing.
He reveals that the photocopied poster from this high school work hangs in his place all the time. It turns out that those experiences were equally important for Chabior, who also kept a similar poster. – He played it so well (because I didn’t feel it on the set) that when I saw fragments now, I was afraid of him – he admits with a laugh after watching fragments of the joint production, talking about Chabior in the role of Filip Golarz.
“Mr. Kleks’ Academy” turned out to be a great success at the turn of last year and this year. “A record for ‘Paradise Kleks’ Academy. There has never been such a result in the history of the Polish box office” – we wrote even before the official premiere, after special screenings. The distributor wants to repeat the same trick with the second part. Pre-premiere screenings will take place around Christmas 2024, and we can probably expect regular distribution to begin at the beginning of next year. Ultimately, this action brought good results – the film was watched in cinemas by almost three million viewers before it was released on Netflix.
