You must read these books at least once in your life. Moving proposals from Polish authors
Starting from the domestic market, it is impossible not to mention “Widnokrąg” by Wiesław Myśliwski, which had its premiere in 1996 and a year later brought the writer the Nike Literary Award. The main character is Piotr, from whose perspective subsequent events are presented. First he reports on the world as a little boy, then as an adolescent and finally as an adult man. It is a story about life in the Polish countryside, experiences of war and love dilemmas, full of deep and thought-provoking thoughts.
“Zorkownia” by Agnieszka Kaluga also deserves special attention. It is moving, full of personal and intimate experiences. The author describes the difficult moments after her daughter’s death and the stage of mourning, from which regular visits to the hospice turned out to be an escape. For 4 years, he has been devoting his free time to those who don’t have much time left, writing down his observations and conclusions about the meaning and essence of life. A slightly different, but equally shocking perspective on death is presented by Mira Marcinów in her book “Bezmatek”. It is a story full of expression and suffering about the extraordinary bond and love between a mother and her daughter, which cannot be broken even by the end of her earthly life. On the pages of the book, the author faces the loss of her parent, comes face to face with beautiful and at the same time painful memories from the past, thus trying to organize her life anew.
What books are worth reading? Two engaging titles, including the debut of a Nigerian writer
Still remaining in the category of difficult topics, we should mention “Purple Hibiscus”, the debut of the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The main character of the novel is 15-year-old Kambili, who, together with her brother and parents, leads a seemingly happy and prosperous life. Although her father is a businessman and actually provides his loved ones with all material goods, he also has a dark side. Behind closed doors, a devout Catholic turns into a fanatical tyrant who torments his family.
The last proposition is one of the most frequently read books in Spanish. We are talking about the novel “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by the Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, which is considered a masterpiece of American literature. The author described the story of six generations of the Buendia family, passed down to him by his ancestors, persecuted by the fate of incest. The book is full of both biblical and fairy tale references, as well as various political connections. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
