Tadeusz Łomnicki made his debut on the theater stage in the late 1940s. His role as Michał Wołodyjowski will forever be remembered in the history of Polish cinema. However, off stage the actor was unable to cope with the roles of husband and father. His first marriage, to the dancer Halina, ended in divorce when Łomnicki started cheating on her. He couldn’t cope with family responsibilities, focusing only on his career.
“Charming Monster” – second marriage
After his divorce from Halina, Tadeusz started a relationship with Irena, a sound engineer. Their relationship was equally tumultuous. Although he initially charmed Irena, over time his dominant behavior and numerous betrayals destroyed their marriage. Irena described him as a “charming monster” whom she loved despite his many faults.
Third marriage – Teresa and constant affairs
Shortly after breaking up with Irena, Łomnicki married Teresa Sobańska, who worked in a radio children’s theater. This relationship was not much different from the previous ones. Teresa quickly realized that the actor did not intend to give up romance. Supposedly, she forgave Tadeusz Łomnicki’s betrayals for seven years. But in the end she couldn’t stand it. After seven years, the relationship ended when a young actress Magdalena Zawadzka appeared in Łomnicki’s life, but she ultimately chose Gustaw Holoubek.
Fourth marriage and escape into politics
Tadeusz’s next wife was Zofia, with whom he had a second son, Piotr. The marriage broke up when… Łomnicki became involved in party activities, which distanced him even further from his family. His obsession with career and politics led to another divorce. The woman explained her divorce petition briefly: “I married an actor, not a party member.”
Last love – Mariola Bojarska
Łomnicki’s last wife was theater expert Mariola Bojarska, 26 years younger than him. Their relationship was full of tension and drama. When Mariola became pregnant, Tadeusz forced her to have an abortion, which left a mark on their relationship forever. Despite this, Mariola stayed with him until his death on the stage of the New Theater in Poznań. The actor died of a heart attack on February 22, 1992, during a rehearsal for the play “King Lear”.
The legacy of Tadeusz Łomnicki
Although Łomnicki was, his private life was full of scandals and controversies. Despotic behavior, numerous affairs and a destructive influence on the women around him make him is a figure that is difficult to assess unequivocally. Łomnicki’s contribution to Polish theater and film is undeniable, but his private life casts a shadow on his legacy.
Tadeusz Łomnicki remains one of the most fascinating and controversial figures in Polish cinema. His life was full of contradictions – on stage he was an incomparable king, but in private he often behaved like a “monster”. His story is an example of how great talent can go hand in hand with a difficult character and a complicated personal life.
