It all started with Paul the octopus, a true legend and pioneer of animal typing. Paul was living quietly in Oberhausen until someone came up with the idea of having him predict the outcome of the match. The principle was simple. Paul had a choice of two jars of clams, each with a sticker corresponding to one of the teams. The rest is legend. Paul predicted the winner by climbing into one of the jars and eating the clams. His effectiveness was astonishing – he made only two mistakes.
