Ukraine beats Slovakia and takes Group E of the Euro Cup

This Friday, Ukraine beat Slovakia 2-1 in the second round of the Eurocup group stage. The match was played at the Esprit Arena, in Dusseldorf, Germany. Mykola Shaparenko and Roman Yaremchuk scored for the Ukrainians and Ivan Schranz scored for the Slovaks.

With the result, Ukraine reaches three points and occupies second place in Group E. While Slovakia is in third place, also with three, but is behind due to the direct confrontation. The other two teams in the group, Belgium (4th) and Romania (1st), face each other this Saturday, at 4pm (Brasília time), at the RheinEnergieStadion.

In the last round of the tournament’s group stage, Ukraine plays against Belgium, next Wednesday, at 1 pm, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. While Slovakia duels with Romania, on the same day and time, at Deutsche Bank Park.

Slovakia opened the scoring in the 17th minute of the first half. After a throw-in, Lukas Haraslín received the ball on the left and sent a beautiful cross to Ivan Schranz, who headed the ball firmly into the net.

Ukraine came back better for the second half and tied the game after nine minutes. Oleksandr Zinchenko advanced from the left and crossed low to Mykola Shaparenko, who finished first time into the goal.

In the 35th minute, Ukraine turned the match around. Mykola Shaparenko made a great pass to Roman Yaremchuk, who dominated the area and shot between goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka’s legs to decide the duel.
