People who decide to go to court often wait for hearings for many months and slowly lose hope that the cases will come to a conclusion. However, it turns out that changes may soon be introduced that will make the entire process much faster. This is hope for those who are looking forward to the final end of a given relationship and to cut a long line from it. However, there is a catch.
What’s the fastest way to get a divorce? For many people, things can become much simpler
According to “Rzeczpospolita”, work is underway at the Ministry of Justice to improve adjudication People who do not decide to file a lawsuit declaring their spouse’s fault and do not have minor children will probably be able to sign divorce documents at the Civil Registry Office or notarial thanks to the changes. Therefore, the courts and couples who are not in conflict will benefit.
When will the changes come into force? It’s still unknown. This may take some time, however, because the revolutionary change also requires an amendment to the Family Code. Article 56 states:
If the marriage has broken down completely and irretrievably, each spouse may request that the court dissolve the marriage by divorce.
For this reason, a change in the code is needed, giving the power to dissolve a marriage not only to the court. Several other countries in Europe have already decided to introduce notarial divorces, including Portugal, Latvia, France and Italy. However, the condition is always the lack of care for minor children.

What percentage of marriages end in divorce? Data without illusions
According to businessinsider.com.pl, according to data from 47 district courts, in 2023, almost 60,000 divorce petitions were filed in just three quarters. This is about 1.4 percent more than in 2022. Some experts believe that this number of divorces may be related to the pandemic. Prof. Aldona Żurek from the Faculty of Sociology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań explained that this may depend on the fact that Poles live differently than a few decades ago.
– When marital crises appear, we are not inclined, as we were before, to explain them by certain natural phenomena that need to be solved. Nowadays, people put personal satisfaction first, rather than what dominated in previous decades, namely the need to protect the institution of marriage for the sake of children or to avoid the judgment of the local community, she said.
