“The Green Border” by Agnieszka Holland was among the ten best films of 2024 – or rather the first half of the year – selected by reviewers of “The Hollywood Reporter” magazine. “Watching this is devastating, but it is a triumph of cinematic art,” we read.

“A deeply moving, flawlessly produced, multi-threaded drama by Polish veteran director Agnieszka Holland, shot in stark black and white, follows the fate of refugees from various countries who in 2021 try to get from Belarus, which supports Russia, to Poland, which is a member of the European Union” – we read in the description devoted to “Zielona Granica”. “Faced with inevitably tragic consequences, the characters become pawns in a macabre game of ‘passing the parcel’ between guards on both sides of the titular green border,” they wrote.

“The Hollywood Reporter” is the first magazine of this type in the “Dream Factory”. The first issue was published almost a hundred years ago, in 1930. First a daily, then a weekly, and over time also an internet service, closely follows the film industry and reports on what is happening there.
