Rod Stewart supported Ukraine from the stage. The fans’ reaction was immediate. This wasn’t what he expected

Rod Stewart has already spoken out on the issue of the war in Ukraine many times. This time, during one of the concerts in Germany, he saluted on stage to photos of Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of the country attacked by Russia. This did not please some of his fans, who started booing and whistling. How did the musician react? You can envy him such composure.

A hoarse voice, a warm tone and a unique stage personality. It was with this that he stole the hearts of listeners, becoming one of the most popular British musicians in the world. Today, he has released nearly 30 studio albums, which, according to estimates, have sold over 250 million copies, and few less timeless hits such as “You’re in My Heart”, “Have I Told You Lately” and “Rhythm of My Heart”. The latter decided to sing at one of his last concerts in tribute to Ukraine.

Rod Stewart performed in Leipzig. He saluted Zelensky on stage. The fans’ reaction leaves much to be desired

From the beginning of his trip to Ukraine in February 2022, the singer supported our eastern neighbors, appealing in the media to accept refugees and donate to collections for the army. – This is evil, pure evil – he said in “The Mirror” about what is happening on the front. He shared similar thoughts on Friday, June 14, 2024, during a concert he played on stage at the Leipzigs Quarterback Immobilien Arena in Germany. Just before performing the 1991 hit “Rhythm of My Heart”, which he dedicated to the citizens of Ukraine, he criticized and asked to display photos from the front on a large screen right behind him. When at one point a blue and yellow flag appeared, followed by a photo of President Volodymyr Zelensky, Stewart turned his back to the audience and saluted. This did not go unnoticed.

The fans booed Rod Stewart. It was a gesture of solidarity for Ukraine. The musician spoke up

Shortly after the concert, recordings of the incident appeared online. They show that the gesture enraged a large part of the concert-goers, who reacted to his show of solidarity by shouting, booing and whistling. The event was also described by the German newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine”, arguing that it was a “sad evening”. In fact, at the time of the incident, Stewart did not react at all and remained stoic.

He only commented on the matter the next day in an interview with the PA news agency. He emphasized that regardless of the reactions his attitude causes, he will continue to support Ukraine and its citizens because he knows that he is doing it for the right purpose. – I organized a collection among my family members, rented a house in the UK for a Ukrainian family, and also hired two Ukrainians for my concert crew – he confessed and addedthat he is constantly involved in various charity events and believes that among his fans there are also those who want to join him.
