“Those About To Die” is a new historical series from Peacock, which will soon debut in our country on Amazon Prime Video. You can already see the full trailer of the production online, which is supposed to show the fate of gladiators in a completely different version.

The director of the production is Roland Emmerich, whose credits include such shows as “Independence Day” and “Godzilla”. Robert Rodat, formerly responsible for “Saving Private Ryan”, is responsible for the script. The story is based on the non-fiction book of the same title by Daniel P. Mannix and takes place during the prosperity of the Roman empire.
Reviewers see the production as a combination of the atmosphere known from “Gladiator” and “Game of Thrones”, and the budget of the first season is $140 million. The series’ cast includes Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins, Iwan Rheon, Tom Hughes, Titus Flavius, Sara Martins, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Jojo Macari and Gabriella Pession.

Rome in 79 AD: The center of the Roman Empire is the richest city in the world, and slaves from the growing empire come to work there. The Roman population – bored, restless and increasingly aggressive – is kept in check mainly by two things: free food and spectacular entertainment in the form of chariot races and gladiator fights.
“Those About to Die” delves into the world of the Games, characterized by bloodlust, greed for money, the pursuit of power and corruption. The races in the Circus Maximus are controlled by four patrician corporations: the Blue, Red, White and Green factions, and shares in them are the most valuable in Rome.
As the entertainment-loving population becomes more and more tired and bloodthirsty, there is a need to build a new stadium for gladiator fights – the Colosseum. The scale of this event, gladiator and animal fights, is huge – just like the underground with a thriving bookmaking business. Thousands of people work and live in the basement, under the stands – including thousands of those who will die on the Olympic arena.
In Poland, the series will debut on the Amazon Prime Video platform on July 19. All ten episodes will be available to subscribers just one day after the premiere in the US. The production will join Amazon’s offer in selected European countries, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India and Sub-Saharan Africa.
