Chancay Megaport receives first batch of five cranes for its inauguration in November 2024

He Chancay Megaport has just received the first batch of five gantry cranes from China. This equipment is necessary for the operation to launch the first stage of the port. The arrival of these cranes was witnessed by local authorities and representatives of Cosco Shipping Port, the company in charge of developing the infrastructure.

The Chancay Megaport project, led by Cosco Shipping Port, aims to transform the central coast of Peru into a first-level logistics hub. Gantry cranes, with advanced load handling capabilities, are a key component in achieving this goal.

One day after the arrival of the gantry cranes from China, the president Dina Boluarte visited the facilities of the Chancay Megaport. It should be noted that the president arrived two hours after the agreed time for the ceremony, scheduled for 10 am. During her speech, she emphasized that the project built north of Lima will turn Peru into a commercial power.

Chancay Megaport: this is the progress of the project

The Chancay Megaport has experienced substantial progress since the beginning of its construction. This project, which represents a multi-million dollar investment, is designed to increase the country’s port capacity and improve logistics connectivity. To date, according to official projections, the first stage is in a 85%.

The development of the megaport includes the construction of multiple terminals and storage areas, as well as the implementation of cutting-edge technology to optimize port operations. To date, a significant portion of the basic infrastructure has been completed, and the newly arrived gantry cranes will be installed and tested in the coming weeks. This progress ensures that the port will be ready to begin operations on schedule.

Chancay megaport will begin operating in 2025

The official opening of the Chancay Megaport is scheduled for November 2024. Once operational, this port is expected to handle a significant volume of cargo, improving the efficiency of the maritime trade of Peru and contributing to the economic growth of the country. The opening date coincides with the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2024 (Aspec). The planning of the inauguration also includes the presence of important political and business figures, highlighting the relevance of the megaport as a strategic project for national development. An example of this is the announced visit of the Chinese president Xi Jinping.
