“The Birth of a Monster”. TVP reacts to the film about Tusk. “Even Kurski’s collaborators are ashamed”

When PiS was in power in Poland, Donald Tusk was constantly slandered in TVP programs. There was even a propaganda film “The King of Europe”, the working version of which was just made public by one of the portals. The current management of the station, as well as its former president, Jacek Kurski, have already commented on the matter.

Not so long ago it was completely subordinated to Law and Justice. The propaganda conducted by him slandered in particular Donald Tusk, who has been called “public enemy number one” for the last 8 years. His statements were frequently manipulated out of context, and reports slandering him appeared in programs.

“The King of Europe” – where to watch? Goniec.pl publishes a TVP film about Tusk

In 2019, the station under management took it a step further by creating a supposedly documentary film about political activities. The Goniec.pl portal managed to gain access to the working version of the production, directed by Ewa Świecińska, author of, among others, controversial documentary “Putch”. In “The King of Europe”, as the material was titled, the present is presented as a politician devoted to Germany, and moreover involved in the tragic accident of a government plane in which Lech Kaczyński died. It was briefly commented on as “the birth of a monster.” – Although the film attacking the current prime minister was already ready for broadcast, it was ultimately shelved. Why? It probably turned out to be too stupid or too kitschy even for TVP standards – said Janusz Schwertner, editor-in-chief of the portal.

On June 11, 2024, journalists shared the material via the YouTube platform without the knowledge of the current TVP owners, explaining that “the public interest requires it.”

The public has the right to know how public money was wasted and how a public institution was harnessed in the service of propaganda.

– the decision was justified, while emphasizing that in this case one cannot talk about copyright, as it is a manifestation of manipulation and lacks any journalistic integrity.

TVP management reacts to the film about Tusk. Jacek Kurski also broke the silence

The case received wide coverage in the media and did not escape the attention of the current management board, which issued an official statement a day after the material was published. The station demanded the removal of the film from both the website and all other channels where it was distributed, emphasizing that its content “is in violation of journalistic standards.” It was also reported that the material was never supposed to see the light of day because “even Jacek Kurski’s former collaborators are ashamed of its production.” – Publishing lies and slander invented for the purposes of aggressive political propaganda is never in the public interest – added Tomasz Sygut, general director of the station, firmly.

The unexpectedly controversial film also decided to comment on whose term it was supposed to be made. In his lengthy statement, he said it was a renewed, false attempt to attack the public broadcaster’s previous authority and denied any involvement in it.

In the public space, a new curiosity appeared in the ritual and repeated attack on the old TV. (…) The text accuses me of preparing a lampoon against Donald Tusk. This is obviously untrue. (…) I firmly deny that this arrangement can be considered a production of Telewizja Polska under my management
