The latest works of Basque female directors Izibene Onederra and Isabel Herguera They will fight to appear on the list of winners at the Annecy Festival from this Sunday until June 15 in the homonymous city located in eastern France.

Oñederra will be in the short films section with Etorriko da (eta zure begiak izango ditu)also recently selected for the Kimuak catalogue.

Etorriko da (eta zure begiak izango ditu) shows a small community that has entered a state of collapse due to an environmental crisis and adapts as best it can to the new reality. The privileged inhabitants live a hedonistic life based on carpe diem, while the others, with no other alternative, try to survive.

Herguera, for his part, participates with The sultana’s dream in the Contrechamp feature film section, which rewards original and independent looks.

The film, premiered in the last edition of Zinemaldia, is inspired by a feminist science fiction short story written in Bengal in 1905 to tell of Inés’s journey of discovery of India in search of Ladyland, the utopian land of women.

The Annecy Festival, created in 1960 in this city on a lake at the foot of the French Alps, awarded the Cristal for best feature film to the Franco-Italian film in 2023 Linda veut du poulet and the Contrechamp Grand Prix to Robot Dreamsby Pablo Berger from Bilbao.
