The first reactions to the picture were particularly important for Costner because the budget of “Horizon” was as much as $100 million, and a significant part of this amount was Costner’s private investment. The star himself put as much as $38 million into the film. To do this, he mortgaged his house in Santa Barbara worth $50 million.

In interviews, the actor emphasized that he wanted to leave behind something more than property. He emphasized that he had provided a good living for his family and that he could do whatever he wanted with the rest of his funds. It was the “Horizon” saga. It turns out that the investment may not have been the best business decision of Costner’s life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, analysts estimate that during the premiere weekend of the first part of the star’s film, the film will earn only $12 million. The second part may turn out to be even less profitable. With such poor forecasts, it is difficult to talk about success or even reimbursement of costs. Costner must slowly come to terms with multi-million losses.

The ratings for “Horizon” after its premiere in Cannes are also not satisfactory. The applause after the screening could have resulted from the respect of those present in the room for the great actor and could have been a summary of his career. On Rotten Tomatoes, the average rating from the 27 reviews given to the film was only 41 percent on the freshness scale.

Among Polish reviewers, Costner’s work delighted Jan Tracz, who rated the production eight stars. In turn, MiƂosz Stelmach from “Ekrany” wrote: When after over an hour and a half the exhibition has not ended and the music keeps reminding us that it is an EPIC saga, it is hard not to take a nap.
