The city wanted to cut it down. Karolina Kuszlewicz protested

There is a forested area near Sieradz that administratively belongs to the city. 20-26 species of birds and wild ones live there. The authorities of Sieradz decided to cut down trees and build two roads in this place. They would be carried out on private land through expropriation. Karolina Kuszlewicz opposed this. The lawyer got involved in the case because she is the co-owner of the land. – If it weren’t for my madness in not wanting to sell this land for a lot of money to a developer who came to me many times with a purchase offer, there would be no one who would fight for this land in the name of nature – she said in an interview with oko.press portal.

Judgment regarding road construction in Sieradz. The lawyer celebrates her win

The city claimed that the forested area was only arable land and that no birds lived there. The investment was approved by the starosta of Sieradz and the voivode of Łódź. The case went to court. Kuszlewicz decided to publicize the case and talk about it in the media because she felt that this topic should become a public matter. – I broke the barrier of awkwardness, although I had great resistance. I thought to myself that it wasn’t about my interest at all, it was about the interest of animals, trees and nature. This gave me a clear conviction that this matter concerns all of us, she said.

The verdict was passed on June 4, 2024. The Provincial Administrative Court in Łódź accepted Karolina’s complaint and overturned the voivode’s decision. He was also ordered to refund PLN 500 of legal costs to Kuszlewicz. By the way, it came to light that the city was making a site inspection of the trees on the woman’s property from behind the fence.

I am very happy with today’s verdict, but at the same time I am at a loss for words. The area is so rich in nature, but they limited themselves to measuring the tree trunks from behind the fence
