“Kitchen revolutions” in “Na Wspólnej”. Gessler came to Ziębów’s place. “Shock and disbelief”

Magda Gessler has been conducting “Kitchen Revolutions” for over 14 years. Few people remember that a decade ago, the famous restaurateur appeared with her program even in “Na Wspólnej”, trying to restore the splendor of the place run by the main characters of the series, Maria and Włodek Zięb. What were the episodes with her participation like?

The first episode (available on the website) premiered at the end of January 2003 and immediately became a sensation. Today, the series is considered the flagship production of TVN, attracting crowds of viewers who follow the complicated fate of the main characters with interest. One of them are Maria and Włodzimierz Ziębowie (played by Mieczysław Hryniewicz), who run the famous “Bar u Maria” in the courtyard of the apartment building. Few remember that Magda Gessler from .

Magda Gessler in “Na Wspólnej”? Even the series’ Maria didn’t expect this

Although combining different formats is quite common practice abroad, in Poland such situations are definitely rare. Despite this, a decade ago, the creators of “Na Wspólnej” decided to take a risk by inviting the host of “Kitchen Revolutions” to the episode. The idea was kept strictly secret, and viewers learned about it only during the broadcast of the 1880th episode. The series’ Maria was equally surprised when she entered the premises, unlike Włodek, who volunteered to participate in the program without his wife’s knowledge. Sparks flew.

Already upon entering, the famous restaurateur expressed her dissatisfaction with the temperature in the premises; in her opinion, it was much too high. However, Maria was not aware that the restaurateur’s visit was actually a kind of “recruitment” for the episode. So she approached the table, as she would with any other customer, and handed them the menu, offering them to taste the dumplings. However, Gessler was more interested in the interior design than the dishes. – Is this bullish color your imagination? – she asked. – Have you come to eat, or are we going to talk about colors? – replied the irritated heroine. It only got funnier from there.

“Kitchen revolutions” in “Na Wspólnej”. Outraged, Maria asked Gessler to leave the bar

The entire plot was continued in the 1882 episode and looked almost exactly like the course of “Kitchen Revolutions”, except that it took place in the series. Gessler asked to present the kitchen and the back room, but Maria definitely did not agree to it and refused to participate in the program. She was also reluctant to have a standard conversation with the host about the operation of the place and eventually asked her and the entire team to leave the bar, after which she organized a tavern brawl with Włodzimierz and her daughter Monika (Sylwia Gliwa), who was involved in the intrigue.

Although Maria seemed adamant that she did not want any revolution to take place in the bar, she was finally persuaded to do so. And the whole thing would probably have gone well, if not for the fact that she again criticized the interior design and then the choice of kitchen equipment. Ultimately, the ladies argued, which turned into… a dumpling duel, which took place in the next episode, 1884.

After the broadcast of “Na Wspólnej” and the final “Kitchen Revolutions” in “Bar u Marii”, the viewers were strongly divided. Some people thought that the idea of combining two formats was great and they had a lot of fun with it. Others, however, were a bit less enthusiastic, saying that most of the time it felt more like embarrassment than laughter.
