Pride Month is celebrated in June. This is a special time for people from the LGBT+ community. These 30 days a year are intended to highlight the problems that people from this community still face in many different parts of the world, as well as to draw attention to their visibility in public space, equal rights and dignity.
Jessica Madsen confessed that she is in love with a woman
This includes: commemorating the events that took place at the Stonewall Pub in New York on June 28, 1969, when the police raided it. Then, a wave of violent demonstrations by people from the LGBT+ community swept through the city, opposing brutal police actions and fighting for equal rights and decent treatment in society. These events have become a symbol of the movement for LGBT+ rights around the world.
This is why the gesture from the great star of the popular Netflix series “Bridgertons” is so important. Jessica Madsen came out on Instagram. The 32-year-old made a moving confession.
I love a woman. I speak about it loudly and I am proud of it
– wrote the 32-year-old. She also posted some rainbow graphics and a photo of herself with rhinestones on her face. Her colleagues from the series expressed their support under her post, including: Hannah Dodd and Nicola Coughlan. But let us remind you that this is not the first time that stars have shown their support for people from the LGBT+ community during this special time. In June 2022, actress Rebel Wilson made a similar confession.
June is LGBT+ Pride and Rights Month
Talking openly about their sexual orientation by recognizable people is of great importance because they contribute to increasing the visibility of non-heteronormative people in society, give them courage and provide support for people who suffer, for example, from discrimination.
Let us remind you that the situation of people from the LGBT+ community is not easy. People from the LGBT+ community in Poland are deprived of basic rights, including: concluding civil unions. Currently, Poland is waiting for the law on civil partnerships, the draft of which has not yet been presented – despite the announcements of the Minister for Equality Katarzyna Kotula. Let us add that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Donald Tusk, assured that the Act on Trade Unions would be a priority in the first 100 days after winning the elections. Since then, over 150 have passed.
In Poland, on the occasion of Pride Month, many cities hold Equality Parades. This year, marches took place in the streets of Olsztyn, Lublin, Opole and Piaseczno. Subsequent parades will take place, among others: in Poznań, Wrocław and Kołobrzeg. The Warsaw parade will take place on June 22.
