A cold-blooded crime. Netflix will tell the shocking story of the Menendez brothers

After the success of the chilling series about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Netflix gave the producers the green light to work on the next season of the anthology. This time, viewers will learn the shocking details of the crime that took place in the late 1980s in one of the estates in Beverly Hills.

The next season will tell the story of the Menendez brothers, who on an August evening in 1989 reported the murder of both their parents to the police. Erik and Lyle told the dispatcher that they discovered the victims’ bodies after returning home. Experts’ findings showed that the woman was shot ten times, while her husband was shot six times. At first, investigators did not suspect the sons of the murdered couple. The Menendezes were considered an ideal, loving family.

The murder of Jose and Kitty Menendez

The brothers’ father, Jose Menendez, held high positions in the film industry, thanks to which Erik and Lyle never lacked anything. The family first lived in New York for many years, and then moved to the representative district of Beverly Hills. The Menendez children attended the best schools – the elder son even got into the prestigious Princeton University. So no one assumed that Eric and Lyle could be behind such a cruel crime.

The first suspicions fell on the brothers when, after the death of their parents, they spent nearly $700,000 on the purchase of a Rolex, a restaurant in Princeton and a luxury Porsche. However, investigators had no evidence to arrest the victims’ sons. A breakthrough in the case came when Judalon Smyth, the former girlfriend of Eric’s psychologist, revealed to the police that her partner had given her information that he did not want to reveal due to medical confidentiality.

During therapy, Eric allegedly revealed that it was he and his brother who murdered their parents. Smyth’s testimony set the stage for the trial, which resulted in the men being sentenced to life in prison. During the live-streamed trial, the brothers said they committed the crime in self-defense after Jose allegedly threatened to kill them. They also accused their father of sexual harassment.

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is scheduled to hit Netflix later this year, but the premiere date has not yet been announced.
