Before you start replanting the peony, you need to prepare it for this procedure. Cut off all leaf shoots. Leave the stems 10 cm above the ground. Grab a spade and dig the flower around. Then pry up the soil and pull it out. Remove the broken roots and divide the peony into two parts. Each of them should have 2-3 buds. Dig two holes 20 cm deep. They should be twice as wide as the roots (underground parts of the plant). Line the holes with compost and fill with fertile, permeable soil. Plant the flowers to a depth of 4 cm. Tamp down the soil and water thoroughly. Place an additional layer of compost on top. Remember that peonies are best transplanted in the evening or on a cool, cloudy day.
