The film adaptation, directed by Maria Dąbrowska, is considered one of the greatest in the history of Polish cinematography. Years after the premiere of “Nights and Days”, it turned out that Bińczycki was not the first candidate for the role of Bogumił. When Antczak started assembling the cast, he suggested it to Stanisław Jasiukiewicz, whose role as Urlich von Jungingen in According to the Vision brought him popularity. Although he initially agreed, he resigned just days before going on set. The reason for this decision was his deteriorating health condition, as the actor was struggling with pancreatic cancer, from which he died at the end of June 1973.
Jasiuk’s extraordinary integrity and loyalty made him protect me from a disaster, because he could have left during the production of the film.
