Sandwiches are a quick meal that we like to eat every day. When we go on a diet and try to avoid bread, the first obstacle appears under our feet. It turns out that we do not always know what we can eat for breakfast and dinner in such a situation. Fortunately, there are several ingredients that we can successfully use as a substitute.

What to eat to avoid eating bread? The dietitian recommends groats

Dr. Angelika Kargulewicz the best substitute for bread is groats. Each type is less processed than bread and additionally contains more nutrients. When we choose whole grains, we will provide our body with a lot of fiber and will keep us full for a longer time. Another great substitute for bread is cooked beetroot, which we can prepare, e.g. in the form of carpaccio. It is a valuable vegetable that will provide a lot of nutrients. It goes perfectly with feta cheese or mozzarella, as well as pumpkin and sunflower seeds. A good option for a quick breakfast without sandwiches is oatmeal. We can make it sweet and salty. If it is to fill us up for a long time, we must remember to add a source of protein, e.g. skyr or protein supplement, and healthy fats, e.g. peanut butter. The addition of fresh fruit will make your morning perfect.

What’s for second breakfast instead of bread? Make a great salad with millet

A salad with groats is perfect for people who want to cut down on bread. You can eat it for dinner, but prepared the day before, it will also work well for a second breakfast. You can easily take it to work in a container, so you’ll have a healthy meal at hand. To prepare it you need:

  • 1/4 cup of dry millet
  • half a ripe avocado
  • 1 red pepper
  • 10 cherry tomatoes
  • 2 eggs (steamed)
  • a teaspoon of roasted pumpkin seeds
  • pepper and salt.

Rinse the groats with cold water and cook covered for about 20 minutes until soft. Let it cool down and start preparing the vegetables. Cut the avocado into cubes, put it in a bowl, sprinkle with lemon juice, sprinkle with ground pepper and add the groats. Chop the pepper into coarse cubes, cut the tomatoes in half and put them in a bowl. Season to taste and mix. Then prepare 2 fried eggs (it is worth steaming them, using baking paper placed on a pan) and place them on top of the salad.
