During his studies he was a “freak”, later he was hailed as the hope of cinema. The 25-year-old’s career was interrupted by tragedy

After an excellent debut in the theater and several roles on screen, Andrzej Nardelli was hailed as the hope of Polish cinematography. However, he was not able to fully develop his potential. The promising career of the 25-year-old actor was interrupted by a tragic accident.

was born on April 7, 1947 in Mysłowice as the third of seven children of Stefania and Walerian from Italy. He spent his childhood and youth in Upper Silesia, where he developed his artistic passions, performed in school performances and learned to play the violin. – He was a romantic. He was the number one star at academies – his mother appeared in “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

For his classmates, Nardelli was no competition. This changed only when he made his debut with Hanuszkiewicz

Although he was multi-talented, he was most interested in acting. After passing his high school final exams, he decided to take the entrance exams to the Warsaw theater school. He won the index the first time. – Theater had always been in his mind, said his sister Maria. During one year he studied, among others: with , Andrzej Seweryn and Maciej Englert, but initially they did not see him as competition at all. – Everyone liked him very much because he was a great colleague, but no one had much hope for him professionally – said the last of them in a documentary created by Nardelli’s dear friend, Magda Umer.

It’s no secret that he was considered a “freak” in his community. This was due to her small, ethereal stature, but also to her specific disposition. He was introverted and at the same time very sensitive. Many claimed that this made him unfit for this world. However, he quickly proved them wrong. In 1968, he successfully completed his studies, and just two years later, Adam Hanuszkiewicz cast him in the main role in “Kordian” by Juliusz Słowacki. After his debut at the National Theater, the then 23-year-old art student received a wave of positive reviews. After each performance, people lined up to give him flowers and get an autograph, and he only secretly dreamed about his next projects.

Was Nardelli’s death an accident? The actor’s relatives still question this

In 1972, Nardelli already had roles in several Television Theater plays, as well as in productions such as “I Don’t Like Monday” or “I Don’t Like Monday”. The world of cinema was open to him, as he was predicted to have a spectacular career. However, everything changed due to the tragic events of June 11. That day, he was staying in Stare Orzechów on the Narew River with his uncle Zdzisław Nardelli, a famous writer and radio director, to whom he offered help in the renovation. It was hot, so he decided to cool off in the river during a break from work. Although he was a good swimmer, he was swept away by the wave. His life could not be saved.

The death of the 25-year-old shocked the entire artistic community. Despite clear indications that it was an accident, there were rumors that the actor had taken his own life, and an investigation was initiated. He was apparently convinced of this by, among others, Hanuszkiewicz. He claimed that Nardelli could not accept his sexual orientation and it made him feel like an outcast. It made sense, because there had been rumors about his affairs for a long time, either with a college professor or a famous journalist. Ultimately, however, the evidence collected by the prosecutor’s office refuted this hypothesis.
